AGARTALA: Ahead of the counting of votes on October 5 for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Committee elections, senior Tipra Motha leader and Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma expressed strong confidence that the party will win over 470 of the 587 Village Committees, with the ruling NDA alliance collectively crossing 500.
Addressing reporters after a review meeting at Manikya Court on Saturday, Debbarma stated that constituency-wise assessments following the September 28 polling pointed to a decisive victory. "We hope to win above 470, and alongside our NDA partners, we expect to cross 500 committees," he affirmed.
The meeting, attended by TTAADC Chief Executive Member Runiel Debbarma, MLA Ranjit Debbarma, and other party functionaries, reviewed election performance and preparations for counting day.
The elections covered 587 Village Committees comprising 4,597 seats. With 1,644 seats won uncontested, voting took place for 2,956 seats across 432 committees, recording an 81.21% turnout.
Debbarma urged the administration and police authorities to maintain tight security around counting centers. Referring to the September 28 Warengbari firing incident—where a party candidate and two others were critically injured—he noted that four arrests have been made and demanded strict action against all remaining suspects. Regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, he stated that Tipra Motha supports the initiative provided indigenous communities face no hassle.
