Agartala, October 4: A tree plantation and cleanliness drive was organised in Ward No. 31 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation on Sunday as part of the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan being held to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday.

The programme sought to combine environmental conservation with civic responsibility, with participants planting saplings and undertaking a cleanliness drive at a nearby temple complex.

The programme began at the Ward Office premises, where saplings were planted under the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" initiative. Organisers highlighted the importance of increasing green cover and protecting the environment to ensure a healthier future for the coming generations.

The plantation programme was followed by a cleanliness drive at the Kali Temple compound. Volunteers, local residents and party workers joined the campaign and cleaned the premises as part of the civic initiative.

Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee also participated in the cleanliness drive and was seen wielding a broom along with workers and residents.

Addressing the gathering, Bhattacharjee stressed the need to promote awareness about cleanliness and environmental protection among people.

He appreciated the organisers and workers for their efforts and said such initiatives reflected a collective responsibility towards society and the environment.

"I extend heartfelt appreciation to all organisers and workers for their tireless efforts in keeping our surroundings clean. This campaign reflects our responsibility towards society and our commitment to a cleaner, healthier environment," he said.

Ward 31 Corporator Anjana Das, Banamalipur Mandal president Arindam Choudhury and several BJP leaders and workers participated in the programme.

The organisers said the initiative was aimed at encouraging greater public participation in cleanliness and environmental conservation activities at the grassroots level.

The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, being observed across the country, has featured various public-oriented programmes, including tree plantation drives, health camps and social welfare activities.

The Ward 31 programme added to the series of activities organised under the campaign, with participants stressing the importance of combining community service with environmental protection and civic responsibility.

The drive concluded with a call for continued public participation in maintaining clean surroundings and promoting greenery in the city.
