Agartala, October 1: The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) is exploring a proposed partnership with Tata Trusts to strengthen livelihood opportunities and beneficiary infrastructure in three Aspirational Blocks of the state, officials said.

The proposed collaboration is expected to cover Dasda and Damcherra in North Tripura and Ganganagar in Dhalai district, with the two organisations holding discussions on an agreement to implement the programme.

A video conference was held on Wednesday between TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma and representatives of Tata Trusts to discuss the proposed initiative, its implementation framework and possible areas of cooperation.

According to officials, the proposed programme is planned for a period of five years, from January 2027 to November 2031. Tata Trusts is expected to provide financial support of around Rs 15 crore for the initiative.

The programme is envisaged to directly support nearly 3,500 rural households in the three identified blocks. Another 1,500 households are proposed to be brought under the programme through convergence with ongoing TRLM interventions, officials said.

Livelihood generation is expected to remain the primary focus of the proposed collaboration, with activities such as piggery, duckery and fishery identified as key areas for intervention.

The programme will also seek to develop infrastructure required by beneficiaries to undertake and sustain these livelihood activities, officials said.

The proposed partnership is aimed at creating sustainable income-generating opportunities for rural households while improving the support systems available to beneficiaries, according to official sources.

The initiative is also expected to promote convergence between the proposed Tata Trusts programme and existing interventions of TRLM in the three Aspirational Blocks.

Officials said the collaboration could help strengthen livelihood-related activities by combining project support with existing government programmes and community-level interventions.

During the meeting, representatives of TRLM and Tata Trusts discussed the broad framework of the proposed programme and the modalities required for its implementation.

The two sides are expected to work out details relating to implementation, beneficiary coverage, livelihood activities and infrastructure support before finalising the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The programme, once formalised, will focus on rural households in the three identified blocks and seek to support livelihood activities over the proposed five-year period.

The discussions form part of efforts to develop structured interventions aimed at improving livelihood opportunities and strengthening rural economic activities in the identified Aspirational Blocks of Tripura, officials said.
