Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched two landmark initiatives in the agriculture sector, with a total outlay of ₹35,440 crore, aimed at transforming the lives of farmers and strengthening India’s agricultural ecosystem. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratanlal Nath virtually joined the national launch event from the State Agriculture Research Station (SARS), AD Nagar, Agartala.

The Prime Minister unveiled the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, with an allocation of ₹24,000 crore, to enhance agricultural productivity and promote sustainable practices. As per a PIB release, the scheme focuses on crop diversification, improved irrigation, post-harvest storage at panchayat and block levels, and facilitating both short- and long-term agricultural credit. North Tripura district has been selected among 100 districts across the country for focused implementation under this initiative.

Alongside, Modi launched the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses, with an outlay of ₹11,440 crore. The mission seeks to raise productivity levels, expand cultivation areas, strengthen the value chain—from procurement to processing—and minimize post-harvest losses.

Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Dr. Saha described the initiatives as “historic”, emphasizing that they will revolutionize India’s agriculture and allied sectors while uplifting farmers’ living standards. He noted that these schemes align with the Prime Minister’s vision of achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047.

The Chief Minister highlighted Tripura’s growing agricultural output, noting a steady rise in per-hectare food grain production. He said special attention has been given to North Tripura, which has lagged slightly, to ensure inclusive development.

The event was attended by MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, West Tripura Zilla Parishad acting Sabhadhipati Bishwajit Shil, Agriculture Secretary Apurba Roy, and other senior officials and public representatives.
