Tension gripped the Jarulbachai area under the 17-Pekerjaan–Janmejaynagar TTAADC constituency after leaders of the BJP and Tipra Motha exchanged allegations of political violence ahead of the upcoming TTAADC elections. The situation escalated significantly, prompting both parties to lodge separate FIRs at Srinagar Police Station.

According to BJP leaders, supporters of Tipra Motha, allegedly acting on the instructions of party candidate Gita Debbarma, carried out an attack on a shop owned by the son of BJP candidate Majee Debbarma in the local market. The BJP claimed that the shop was vandalised, causing financial damage.

Majee Debbarma condemned the incident, stating that political rivalry should not lead to economic targeting. “People may have different political preferences, but no one should suffer financially because of their affiliations. Such actions reflect an attempt to create fear and financial hardship among BJP workers,” he said. He further alleged that the houses of BJP leaders Bachan Debbarma and Subhas Debbarma were also attacked and severely damaged, rendering them uninhabitable.

Debbarma confirmed that an FIR had been filed against those allegedly involved in the attacks and demanded strict action against the perpetrators.

However, Tipra Motha leaders have strongly denied the allegations and instead accused the BJP candidate of instigating violence. According to them, tensions flared when processions of both parties, led by their respective candidates, reached the local market simultaneously.

A Tipra Motha leader claimed that Majee Debbarma provoked his supporters to attack their workers, allegedly arguing that other parties should not campaign in the area as it was his native place. “When our supporters reached the market peacefully, BJP workers attempted to disrupt our procession. We had to resist when the situation started spiraling out of control,” the leader said.

He also alleged that police and security personnel present at the scene witnessed the developments. Furthermore, he claimed that two Tipra Motha workers were attacked while returning home after the event, and their motorcycles were completely damaged.

The incident has heightened political tensions in the region, raising concerns over law and order as the elections approach.
