Agartala, Feb 24: Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, supremo of the Tipra Motha Party and Member of District Council (MDC), on Tuesday questioned the competence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that the party lacks the strength to emerge as a formidable force in the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
Addressing a party meeting and yarn distribution programme at Pekuarjala, Debbarman said an electoral contest takes place between two political parties of equal stature. “In TTAADC, BJP does not stand anywhere near Tipra Motha in terms of political strength and public acceptance,” he claimed.
Alleging attempts to capture TTAADC land, he said concerted efforts were being made in areas such as Bishramganj and Kanchanpur. Urging supporters to remain patient and strategic, he called for unity within the Tiprasa community. “The time has arrived to be calculative. Wait for the day when the community will capture Agartala and see a Tiprasa leader in the Chief Minister’s chair,” he remarked.
Debbarman also appealed for restraint among party workers, even in the face of criticism from leaders of the BJP, Congress and CPI(M). He advised supporters not to obstruct political opponents and to avoid internal divisions. “If Tiprasa fights Tiprasa for politics, we become a laughing stock. My politics is not for votes; my vision is that children from poor Tiprasa families should become the owner class of the state,” he stated.
He further asserted that he would press the government to ensure that TTAADC receives roads, land rights and other essential entitlements, emphasizing that ministerial berths alone would not fulfil the aspirations of the people.
