Agartala, April 12: Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma, founder of Tipra Motha, emphasized the long-term future of Tripura’s tribal communities as he cast his vote at Mandwi in West Tripura district during the ongoing Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.

Speaking to reporters after voting, Pradyot highlighted that the election is not just about immediate political outcomes but about safeguarding the rights of future generations. “Whatever people choose, they will choose for their children and for the next generation. They will choose their rights, because that is essential for survival in the long run,” he stated, underscoring the significance of the mandate.

According to election officials, voter turnout had already reached around 65 percent by 1 pm, reflecting strong public participation. Welcoming the encouraging turnout, Pradyot expressed optimism that the numbers would rise further by the end of the day. He also voiced hope for a peaceful polling process, noting Tripura’s tradition of high voter engagement.

Addressing concerns over political violence, Pradyot asserted that his party does not depend on intimidation or muscle power. “I have no need for goondas in politics,” he remarked. Referring to the recent Takarjala incident, he criticized the practice of fielding candidates with alleged criminal backgrounds, calling it “very unfortunate.” He added that he would provide a more detailed response after the conclusion of the elections.

With the results scheduled to be announced on April 17, Pradyot expressed confidence in the wisdom of the electorate. “I am very hopeful. Let’s wait for April 17. I have faith in the people,” he said, reiterating his belief that voters would make responsible choices keeping the future in mind.
