Chandigarh, November 12:
In a major breakthrough against organized crime, the Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in a coordinated operation with Mohali Police, foiled a gangster plot and arrested two operatives associated with foreign-based gangster Goldy Dhillon, a close aide of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, following a brief exchange of fire on the Ambala–Dera Bassi highway, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced on Wednesday.

The arrested accused have been identified as Sharanjit Singh, a resident of Mohali, and Aman Kumar, hailing from Khijargarh village in Zirakpur. Police recovered two .32 bore pistols and 10 live cartridges from their possession.

DGP Yadav stated that preliminary investigations revealed the duo’s involvement in a firing incident in Rajpura last month. They were allegedly assigned by Goldy Dhillon to target a businessman in Punjab as part of a larger extortion plan.

Additional DGP (AGTF) Promod Ban revealed that Goldy Dhillon is also suspected to be the mastermind behind the daylight killing of an Indian-origin industrialist in Abbotsford, Canada, in October.

Deputy Inspector General (AGTF) Gurmeet Singh Chauhan added that both accused have prior criminal records, with Aman Kumar facing two FIRs related to arms offences.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Mohali) Harmandeep Hans shared that acting on specific intelligence, joint teams led by DSP Bikramjit Brar intercepted the suspects. Upon being surrounded, the accused opened fire at police personnel in an attempt to escape. Police retaliated, injuring both suspects before overpowering them.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Mohali Police Station. Authorities have intensified investigations to trace the wider network of the Goldy Dhillon–Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate operating from abroad.
