Agartala: Oct 20: The safety of Agartala city is once again under scrutiny following another incident that dominated Sunday’s headlines. Three youths have been arrested in connection with the abduction and assault of a young man from Adviser Chowmuhani on Saturday night.

A group of 10-12 individuals abducted Samir Das on Saturday night, reportedly due to a previous enmity. He was taken away on bikes and cars and later beaten in a secluded spot near Heritage Park. Locals who noticed the incident rescued Samir. Following a complaint filed by Samir’s family at West Agartala Police Station, the police arrested Avir Chakraborty, Bishal Biswas, and Arghadeep Lodh from Gorakhabasti, Indranagar, and Arundhatinagar areas respectively. The luxury car used in the abduction was also seized.

The Officer-in-Charge of West Agartala Police Station stated that a case has been registered against the arrested individuals and that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the dispute.

The incident has highlighted growing concerns about safety in Agartala, with increasing unrest making it unsafe for residents. Areas such as North Gate, RMS Chowmuhani, Mantri Bari Road, Rabindra Palli, City Center, IGIM Chowmuhani, Khejur Bagan, and Heritage Park have become particularly dangerous. Groups of unruly youths have been causing disturbances, consuming alcohol in public, and harassing passersby, especially young women.

Local police, including those from East Agartala, West Agartala, and NCC police stations, have been criticized for their ineffectiveness in controlling the situation. There are even rumors of police personnel being involved in criminal activities. Residents are hesitant to protest due to fear for their safety.

The ongoing situation has led to opposition parties accusing the state government of failing to maintain law and order. Despite the increasing number of criminal incidents, significant action has yet to be taken by police officials, leading to widespread discontent among the public.
