Khowai, Oct 24: Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajoy Tamta said that the two-lane stretches of National Highways in the state would be converted into four lanes. He said, efforts to make DPR for some stretches are already going on.
Addressing a press conference at the State Guest House, Agartala on Thursday, the Union Minister also said, discussions are in progress so that a Multilevel Logistics Park could be developed in the state. He mentioned about his courtesy meeting with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
He also said, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government is actively working on the development of northeastern states, paying special attention to infrastructure enhancement.
The Union Minister said, after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, special importance has been given on the development of bordering states. Works are going on in these states with a priority on road infrastructure, electricity, water and healthcare.
He said the central ministers are regularly visiting the northeastern states, easing the process to address various challenges and problems.
He also said, several initiatives have been taken to transform Tripura into a corridor to South East Asia.
Elaborating on other sides, the Union Minister said, initiatives have been taken to renovate the flood-affected roads in the state. He said, the NHIDCL is maintaining 750 out of 793 kilometers of National Highway.
He also visited the Bamboo & Cane Development Institute (BCDI).
Our Khowai correspondent adds: Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajoy Tamta held a review meeting at the conference hall of Khowai DM office. Khowai District Magistrate Chandni Chandran and other officials were present.
The Union Minister reviewed the progress of various on-going projects. He emphasized development of aspirational blocks.
He then inaugurated the conference hall of Panchayat Resource Centre and BAC, Padmabil Block and participated in an interaction meet with women SHG members and inspected various stalls.
His visit to Khowai also included inauguration of a Public Library at Khirodnagar ADC Village and then inspected NH 208B at Upendranagar.
