Agartala, August 8:
Hon’ble Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Shri Biswa Bandhu Sen, was rushed to the hospital on Friday evening after collapsing in the washroom at Agartala Railway Station, moments before boarding a train to his hometown Dharmanagar.
According to sources, the senior legislator fell unconscious while using the washroom on the station premises. He was quickly discovered and immediately shifted to Tripura Medical College (TMC) in Hapania for emergency medical attention.
Following a series of diagnostic tests, doctors at TMC diagnosed him with an internal brain haemorrhage, a serious condition that can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. The attending team of neurospecialists has recommended immediate surgical intervention to relieve pressure and prevent further complications.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, upon learning of the incident, rushed to TMC and consulted with the medical team treating the Speaker. Dr. Saha, who himself has a medical background, reviewed the reports and discussed the next steps with specialists. Sources say the state government is actively coordinating for potential advanced treatment options, including the possibility of airlifting the Speaker to a higher medical facility outside the state, if necessary.
Shri Biswa Bandhu Sen remains under close medical supervision, with preparations underway for the advised surgical procedure. Hospital authorities have confirmed that all necessary arrangements are being made on an urgent basis.
The sudden health emergency has drawn concern from across party lines. Leaders from the ruling and opposition parties, as well as members of the public, have expressed deep concern and extended wishes for his swift and full recovery.
Further updates on the Speaker’s health are expected from the hospital or official sources soon.
