Agartala, November 24 — Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Monday led the Sardar@150 Unity March in Agartala, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister and the ‘Iron Man of India’. The event marked the beginning of year-long celebrations honouring Patel’s pivotal role in national integration.

Dr. Saha, accompanied by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy and several other dignitaries, flagged off the rally, which aimed to promote unity, discipline, and the spirit of self-reliance among citizens. Participants marched through key locations in the city, carrying placards and messages inspired by Patel’s ideals.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister underscored the enduring relevance of Sardar Patel’s vision of a united and strong India. He said that the nation’s progress must be rooted in collective responsibility, economic empowerment, and social harmony. Dr. Saha highlighted that Patel’s dream of a cohesive India should guide present-day efforts to build an economically resilient nation.

He emphasized the importance of the “Vocal for Local” movement, urging people to use and promote locally made products. According to him, supporting indigenous industries, artisans, and local entrepreneurs directly contributes to the success of Atmanirbhar Bharat and strengthens state-level initiatives toward achieving an Atmanirbhar Tripura. Encouraging local youth to innovate and participate in entrepreneurship, he added, is essential for long-term sustainable development.

The Unity March saw enthusiastic participation from students, sportspersons from various parts of the country, voluntary organizations, and community representatives. The rally showcased vibrant cultural expressions and strong messages on national integrity, unity, and economic self-reliance.

The event concluded with a pledge to uphold Sardar Patel’s legacy by fostering harmony, promoting local industries, and contributing to the nation’s journey towards self-reliance and unity.
