Agartala, Feb 27: The Tripura Pradesh Congress on Friday announced a statewide protest movement against alleged corruption in several government departments and civic bodies, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Smart City projects and areas under the Autonomous District Council (ADC).
Addressing a press conference, Pradesh Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty said the agitation will commence on March 2 with the submission of a deputation to the Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation. The party has alleged irregularities in the functioning of the municipal body and in the implementation of Smart City projects.
Chakraborty stated that the movement would gradually be intensified across the state. Following the Agartala programme, the Congress plans to organise protests in other municipal councils, Nagar Panchayats, ADC areas and various state government departments, raising corruption-related issues at multiple levels.
General Secretary Prashanta Sen Chowdhury said the party had made repeated attempts to seek an appointment with the Mayor of AMC but was unsuccessful. Consequently, the Congress has decided to submit the deputation directly to the Municipal Commissioner instead.
Sadar District Congress President Tanmoy Ray informed that party leaders and workers will assemble in front of Congress Bhavan at 12 noon on March 2. A rally will then proceed from Congress Bhavan to the AMC office, where the deputation will be formally handed over.
The Congress leadership has appealed to party workers and supporters across the state to participate in large numbers, asserting that the movement is aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability and clean governance in public institutions.
