Agartala, October 23: Tripura Governor Nallu Indrasena Reddy has called for the expansion of National Cadet Corps (NCC) training activities and infrastructure across the state, citing the high number of educational institutions and students in Tripura.

He emphasized that Tripura, with the second-highest number of students and educational institutions in the northeastern region after Assam, is well-positioned to benefit from enhanced NCC engagement.

Governor Reddy made these remarks on Wednesday following a meeting with Major General Gagan Deep, Additional Director General of NCC, and all Group Commanders of the Northeast Region Directorate.

The officials were in Agartala for the three-day Biannual Group Commanders Conference 2024, which kicked off today at the 21 Assam Rifles Sector auditorium.

A demonstration of the latest gadgets, drone technology and equipments were also organized.

Governor Reddy viewed that NCC plays a crucial role in shaping the character of students, fostering discipline, and instilling a sense of service towards the nation.

He added that Tripura has a vast potential to further increase the reach of the NCC, and more facilities should be established to engage students across the state and to support this, he plans to engage with the state government to identify suitable land for establishing more NCC training centers here.

Governor Reddy also stressed the need to accelerate NCC activities not only in Tripura but across the entire northeastern region.

During the day, the NCC officials also interacted with NCC cadets from various districts in Tripura, gaining first-hand experience of the community development activities and services performed by cadets in their respective institutions. This interaction allowed the delegates to assess the effectiveness of ongoing NCC programs in the state.

Currently, approximately 5,300 cadets, including around 2,500 girl cadets, are enrolled in NCC from 95 schools and colleges across the eight districts of Tripura.
