Agartala, Dec 2:
Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu inaugurated the Foundation Day of Assam at Lok Bhavan, Agartala, in a grand ceremony held on Tuesday evening. The event, organised to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and historical significance of Assam, brought together dignitaries, cultural troupes, officials, and members of the Assamese community residing in Tripura.

In his inaugural address, Governor Nallu extended warm greetings to the people of Assam and highlighted the deep cultural, linguistic, and historical ties shared between the two northeastern states. He noted that Assam, with its unique traditions, reformist history, and vibrant ethnic diversity, has played a pivotal role in shaping the socio-cultural landscape of the entire Northeast.

The Governor praised Assam’s contributions to literature, art, music, and socio-political movements, mentioning figures such as Srimanta Sankardev, Bhupen Hazarika, and Lakshminath Bezbaroa who left an indelible imprint on Indian culture. He emphasised that festivals like Foundation Day serve as important platforms for promoting unity and strengthening the spirit of brotherhood among the northeastern states.

The programme featured a colourful line-up of cultural performances showcasing Assam’s rich artistic heritage. Dancers performed traditional Bihu and Sattriya numbers, while musical groups presented folk songs that highlighted the state’s harmonious blend of traditions. Exhibitions displaying Assamese crafts, handloom products, and traditional cuisine added charm to the celebration.

Governor Nallu lauded the efforts of the organisers for creating an opportunity for the people of Tripura to experience Assam’s cultural heritage firsthand. He also reiterated the importance of inter-state cooperation in the development of the Northeast and said that cultural exchange fosters mutual understanding and regional harmony.

The evening concluded with a vote of thanks and a cultural fellowship, marking a memorable celebration of Assam’s glorious history and its enduring bond with Tripura.
