Agartala, Nov 6: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to inclusive growth, stating that Tripura’s development is impossible without the development of its Janajati (tribal) areas. He announced that more than 40% of the 2025–26 state budget has been earmarked for Janajati area development.
Dr. Saha made the announcement while inaugurating the State-Level Toolkits Distribution Ceremony for Skilled Bru Candidates in Agartala. He also virtually inaugurated several key infrastructures, including the Chawmanu Class XII School, Chawmanu Fire Station, the Executive Engineer’s Office under Manu RD Division, and a Wayside Amenity at Manu.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives, Dr. Saha said six auto-rickshaws were flagged off under the Swabalamban Yojana, which provides a ₹1 lakh subsidy per beneficiary. He emphasized that under the PM Kaushalya Yojana and Mukhyamantri Dakkhata Yojana, special skill development programs are being conducted for the Bru (Reang) community to ensure sustainable livelihoods.
The Chief Minister noted that since 2018, the state government has resolved several long-pending issues faced by the Bru people on humanitarian grounds. “Our government is focused on making people self-reliant through economic and social empowerment,” he said. Toolkits were distributed to 895 beneficiaries, and 200 individuals received driving licences, amounting to a total expenditure of ₹1.45 crore.
Dr. Saha added that under the Tripura Skill and Entrepreneurship Policy 2024, around 35,000 candidates are receiving training in emerging fields like AI, renewable energy, IT services, and healthcare. Some trained youths have already secured placements in Japan.
He concluded that Tripura’s holistic growth depends on uplifting tribal regions, with sustained investments in education, health, and employment for Janajati communities.
