Agartala, Oct 31: Tripura has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing the first position among all Northeastern states in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme — a central government initiative aimed at promoting solar energy use in the agricultural sector.

The honour was conferred during the Regional Workshop on Renewable Energy for the Northeastern States, held in Guwahati on Thursday. Tripura’s Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath received the prestigious award on behalf of the state from Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Prahlad Joshi.

Under the PM-KUSUM scheme, the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) has successfully implemented solar-powered irrigation systems, ensuring sustainable water supply for farmers and reducing dependence on conventional electricity or diesel-based pumps. With its efficient execution and extensive farmer participation, Tripura has outperformed all other Northeastern states in this key renewable energy initiative.

Speaking after receiving the award, Minister Ratan Lal Nath said the recognition reflects the state government’s commitment to promoting green energy and empowering farmers through clean and cost-effective technology. He also acknowledged the relentless efforts of TREDA officials and field workers for driving the project’s success at the grassroots level.

The achievement is seen as a major step toward the state’s vision of self-reliant agriculture and sustainable rural development. Officials noted that the adoption of solar irrigation has not only improved agricultural productivity but also contributed significantly to reducing carbon emissions.

The award positions Tripura as a model state in renewable energy adoption in the Northeast and strengthens its reputation for effective policy implementation under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s government.
