Agartala, April 9: As the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections draw closer, political activities in the hill regions have intensified, with the ruling BJP stepping up its campaign and expressing confidence in strong tribal support.
On Thursday, a massive rally was organized in Mungiakami under the Teliamura constituency in support of BJP candidate Billu Jamatia. The procession began from Ramakrishnapur Shakti Kendra and moved through various parts of Mungiakami, drawing large crowds of party supporters. The rally created a vibrant atmosphere, marked by party flags, slogans, and enthusiastic participation from local residents.
The rally was led by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, who later addressed the media. Highlighting the party’s confidence, he stated that the tribal community is increasingly aligning with development-driven governance. “The people’s support for the triple-engine government is evident. BJP is poised to win all 28 seats in the council,” he asserted.
Debbarma also raised allegations against sections of Tipra Motha, claiming that some miscreants linked to the party have been involved in acts of violence since the announcement of the elections. He alleged incidents of attacks on BJP workers, vandalism of vehicles, and intimidation of supporters in certain areas. According to him, such activities have led to growing public discontent, with several individuals and families shifting their allegiance towards the BJP.
Despite the escalating political tensions, the minister stressed the need for maintaining democratic values and ensuring peaceful conduct during the elections. “Democracy has no place for violence. We expect the elections to be conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, allowing voters to exercise their rights without fear,” he said.
The upcoming TTAADC elections are expected to witness a closely contested battle, with multiple parties vying for control of the council. As campaigning gains momentum, the focus remains on both development narratives and maintaining law and order in the region.
The rally in Mungiakami reflects the BJP’s intensified outreach efforts and signals a high-stakes political contest in the tribal areas of Tripura.
