Sidhai Police, led by Officer-in-Charge Himadri Sarkar, have arrested two individuals in connection with the death of Daniel Debbarma, who succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent assault in Birmohan ADC Village under Sidhai Police Station limits.

The incident took place on the night of July 25, around 10:00 PM, when three alleged assailants—identified as Samarendra Debbarma, Santosh Debbarma, and Rakesh Debbarma—reportedly attacked Daniel Debbarma and his friend, Bahar Debbarma, at the residence of Teiraj Debbarma. Both victims suffered severe injuries, with Daniel’s condition being critical.

Daniel was rushed to GBP Hospital for emergency treatment but, despite medical intervention, his health deteriorated. On August 1, 2025, he passed away while still under care, sparking grief and anger among the local community. His family promptly lodged a complaint naming the three suspects as the attackers.

Acting swiftly, police arrested Samarendra Debbarma and Santosh Debbarma late Tuesday night. Both were produced before the court on Wednesday, where police sought remand for further interrogation. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the third accused, Rakesh Debbarma, whose movements are being closely monitored.

Speaking to reporters, OC Himadri Sarkar shared details of the investigation and assured that justice will be pursued with full diligence. “We are committed to ensuring all those responsible are brought to book,” he stated.

In a show of solidarity, Minister Ratan Lal Nath, who is also the local MLA, visited Daniel’s residence to meet his grieving family. He instructed the West Tripura Superintendent of Police and the Sidhai OC to expedite the arrests and ensure strict action against the culprits.

The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the urgency of swift justice and effective law enforcement.
