Agartala, July 29 — In a significant step toward strengthening educational infrastructure for tribal communities, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday virtually laid the foundation stones for six new tribal hostels in South Tripura district. The initiative is part of the PM Janman and Dharati Aba Janbhagidari Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan schemes, focused on inclusive development and educational empowerment.

The hostels will be constructed at Gobindabari High School and Naraifang High School (for both boys and girls) under Bokafa Block, and at Binoy Prasad Para High School and Krishnarampur High School (boys and girls) under Jolaibari Block. Each facility will be built at an estimated cost of ₹2.30 crore.

A central ceremony was organized at Kwaifang Community Hall, where Tripura’s Minister for Co-operation, Shuklacharan Noatia, attended as the chief guest. In his speech, he reiterated that no society can progress without access to quality education and lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering tribal communities through dedicated educational programs.

Minister Noatia announced that a total of 27 such hostels will be built across the state under PM Janman. He also informed that the number of Eklavya Model Residential Schools in Tripura has now risen to 21, as part of broader efforts to ensure last-mile delivery of development schemes.

The event was attended by several dignitaries including Jolaibari BAC Chairman Ashok Mog, South Tripura DM Mohammad Sajjaj P., District Education Officer Dilip Debbarma, and Panchayat officials.

Simultaneously, in Mohanpur, the Union Minister virtually inaugurated a 50-bed boys’ hostel at Radhanagar High School in East Tamakari ADC village under Hezamara Block, with a project cost of ₹2.80 crore. A local ceremony saw participation from ADC Executive Member Rabindra Debbarma and other key district officials.
