Governor Indra Sena Reddy Visits Brahmakunda Tea Estate and Factory in Simna
Highlights Tea Sector’s Potential in Boosting Tripura’s Economy

Agartala, August 7:
Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Wednesday morning visited the Brahmakunda Tea Garden and Tea Processing Factory operated by the Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited (TTDCL) at Simna. The visit was part of his ongoing effort to review key economic sectors and assess developmental initiatives in the state.

During the visit, the Governor was briefed by officials of the TTDCL about the garden’s operations, production capacity, employment generation, and the challenges faced by the tea sector in Tripura. He interacted with staff and workers at the site and took stock of the processing procedures, from plucking to packaging.

The Governor lauded the efforts of TTDCL in promoting Tripura’s tea industry and acknowledged the role it plays in providing employment to local communities, especially women. He noted that the tea industry in the state has significant potential, not just for domestic sales but also for export, if supported with the right infrastructure, marketing strategies, and branding initiatives.

He emphasized the need for modernisation of processing units, better market linkage, and skill development among workers to improve the overall productivity and profitability of the tea sector. The Governor also suggested that the state explore organic and specialty tea markets to enhance the visibility of Tripura tea on a global platform.

Officials accompanying the Governor assured that the suggestions would be conveyed to the appropriate authorities and necessary measures will be taken to strengthen the sector.

The visit highlighted the state’s ongoing commitment to diversifying its rural economy through agro-based industries like tea, rubber, and bamboo. The Governor’s engagement is expected to boost morale among tea workers and stakeholders, encouraging further investment and innovation in the sector.
