Agartala, March 25: In a significant step towards strengthening skill development and employment opportunities, the Directorate of Skill Development, Government of Tripura, on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the World Skill Center Odisha to establish a specialized training centre in the beauty and wellness sector at Bodhjungnagar.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Tripura. Pinki Patnaik, Additional Secretary to the Government of Odisha and Chief Operating Officer of the World Skill Center Odisha, also visited the state along with a delegation to mark the occasion.
According to officials, the proposed centre will offer demand-driven training programmes designed in alignment with both national and international standards. The initiative aims to equip young individuals with industry-relevant skills in the rapidly growing beauty and wellness sector, thereby enhancing their employability.
Officials highlighted that the collaboration will enable Tripura to adopt modern training methodologies and best practices in skill development. It is expected to strengthen institutional capacity and significantly improve the quality and reach of vocational training across the state.
The partnership will also facilitate knowledge sharing and introduce advanced training modules, while focusing on upskilling trainers to ensure high-quality instruction. Additionally, support will be extended in job placement for trained candidates, creating a direct link between skill acquisition and employment opportunities.
This initiative forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to expand its skill development infrastructure and create sustainable livelihood options for the youth. Officials noted that the upcoming International Skill Centre and Employment Hub at Hepania will further complement these efforts by offering advanced training facilities and placement support.
By improving access to quality skill training and aligning programmes with industry needs, the collaboration is expected to play a crucial role in empowering the youth of Tripura and boosting employment prospects in emerging sectors, officials added.
