Dharmanagar, March 26: The town of Dharmanagar is gearing up for a crucial by-election to the Tripura Legislative Assembly, scheduled to be held on April 9, 2026. As part of the election process, the Election Commission of India has announced arrangements for postal ballot voting for government employees engaged in election duty.

According to officials, postal ballot voting will be conducted at Bir Bikram Institution on April 3 and 4. This facility will enable polling personnel and other government staff assigned to election duties to cast their votes in advance, ensuring their participation in the democratic process despite their responsibilities on polling day.

The by-election has been necessitated following the demise of Biswa Bandhu Sen, who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly and Speaker of the House. His passing in February created a vacancy in the constituency, prompting the need for fresh elections.

With the scrutiny of nomination papers now completed, candidates have been given time until March 26 to withdraw their nominations. The final list of contesting candidates is expected to be announced shortly thereafter.

The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4, while the entire election process is set to be completed before May 6, as per the official timeline.

As the election date approaches, political parties are expected to intensify their campaigns across the constituency. The issuance of the gazette notification has formally set the electoral process in motion, marking the beginning of a high-stakes contest in Dharmanagar.
