Agartala, April 9: The bye-election to the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency in North Tripura witnessed a strong voter turnout, with an average polling percentage of 79.84% recorded till 5 PM, according to official sources. The polling process, which began early in the morning, progressed smoothly across the constituency, reflecting high voter enthusiasm and participation.

Election officials reported that voters from all sections of society, including women, youth, and elderly citizens, turned out in large numbers to exercise their democratic rights. Polling stations saw steady queues throughout the day, with many voters arriving early to avoid last-minute rush. The significant turnout indicates keen public interest in the electoral process and the outcome of the by-election.

Authorities ensured elaborate security arrangements to maintain law and order during the voting process. Central Armed Police Forces, along with state police personnel, were deployed at sensitive and critical polling stations to prevent any untoward incidents. Officials confirmed that the polling remained largely peaceful, with no major disruptions reported from any part of the constituency.

Special arrangements were also made to facilitate senior citizens and persons with disabilities, ensuring inclusive participation. Election staff and volunteers were seen assisting voters at multiple booths, contributing to the smooth conduct of the polls.

The by-election in Dharmanagar has drawn considerable political attention, with multiple candidates in the fray representing major political parties. The high voter turnout is being seen as a crucial indicator that could significantly influence the final outcome.

Polling concluded at 5 PM, after which the sealing of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) was carried out in the presence of polling agents. The counting of votes is scheduled to take place in the coming days, and results are eagerly awaited.

Overall, the 79.84% turnout underscores the robust democratic spirit of the electorate in Dharmanagar and highlights the importance voters attach to choosing their representative.
