Tripura Chief Minister and Health Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure, expanding medical services and ensuring better access to quality treatment, particularly in remote areas.

Addressing a State-Level Training and Offer Distribution Programme at Pragna Bhavan for General Duty Medical Officers (GDMOs), Dental Officers, Dental Surgeons and Community Health Officers, Dr. Saha said the government is focusing on upgrading healthcare infrastructure, improving medical services and enhancing training for doctors and health workers.

He said the state’s bed capacity has increased from 727 to 1,413, with another 100 beds planned. Super-speciality and critical-care facilities, communicable disease centres, evening OPDs and upgraded district and subdivision-level healthcare infrastructure are also being developed.

The Chief Minister distributed appointment offers to 42 newly recruited GDMOs following the latest recommendation of the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC). He said the recruitment process was based entirely on merit and conducted transparently.

According to Dr. Saha, the government had earlier requisitioned 224 GDMO vacancies, of which 216 candidates were recommended by TPSC. After exclusions, 214 appointment offers were issued, with 160 candidates accepting them and 152 already joining service. Another 42 candidates were recommended by TPSC on June 2, 2026, and their offers were distributed at Tuesday’s programme.

Highlighting dental healthcare, Dr. Saha said Tripura has 123 sanctioned dental posts, with 68 filled and 49 vacant. Under the National Health Mission, 51 additional posts have been sanctioned, of which 49 are filled.

He also announced plans to expand postgraduate medical education and introduce DM and MCh super-speciality courses at AGMC and GB Pant Hospital next year.

Emphasising digital healthcare, Dr. Saha highlighted the Integrated Health Management Information System and ABHA-linked medical records to improve patient care and administrative efficiency.

The Chief Minister said the government aims to transform Tripura into a regional medical hub with multiple medical, dental, nursing and pharmacy institutions, along with proposed Ayurvedic and Homeopathic colleges and a dedicated Health University.
