Agartala: Nov 26: Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a prominent Hindu leader in Bangladesh, had his bail application rejected by the Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Court in a sedition case. The ISKCON-affiliated monk, also known as Krishna Das Prabhu, was arrested on charges related to his involvement in organizing protests condemning what he described as “atrocities against fellow devotees” in the country. The police did not request his remand, so the court sent him to judicial custody, ensuring that he would be granted all religious privileges during his detention.

Krishna Das is the President of Pundarik Dham in Bangladesh and a vocal advocate for the rights of Hindus, who are a minority in the predominantly Muslim nation. His arrest comes after he led several rallies across the country, urging the protection of Hindu communities and demanding justice in the wake of religiously motivated violence. Following his arrest, protests broke out in Dhaka and other regions, leading to clashes and injuries.

Krishna Das is one of 18 individuals charged with sedition after hoisting a saffron flag in Bangladesh, an act that reportedly led to accusations of disrespecting the national flag. His arrest and subsequent legal troubles have drawn attention to the precarious situation of Hindus in Bangladesh, who have faced increasing discrimination and targeted attacks in recent years.

Previously affiliated with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Krishna Das has served as a spokesperson for the organization, raising concerns about the safety and well-being of Hindus in Bangladesh. His arrest highlights ongoing tensions in the country regarding religious freedoms and the treatment of minority groups.
