The 17th biennial state conference of the Tripura Gramin Bank Officers’ Union (TGBOU) was held in Agartala on Sunday, bringing together representatives from across the state to deliberate on key organisational and service-related issues. The event took place at the Dasarath Deb Memorial Auditorium and saw active participation from union members and invited leaders.

The conference focused on challenges faced by bank officers, internal organisational matters and the roadmap for future programmes. National Federation of Regional Rural Bank Officers president Chen Singh Rawat attended as the chief speaker. In his address, he highlighted the growing challenges in the banking sector, emphasised the importance of employee organisations, and called for collective efforts to address service-related concerns effectively.

Tripura Gramin Bank Employees Association general secretary Sagarjit Adhikari and Tripura Gramin Bank Retired Staff Association general secretary Bikash Ranjan Debnath also spoke at the event, sharing their perspectives on employee welfare and institutional development.

Outgoing general secretary Sanjay Das presented the organisational report for the previous term, detailing activities undertaken and outlining proposals for the coming years. Treasurer Surajit Debbarma placed the audited accounts for the last two years, which were subsequently approved by the delegates.

Twelve delegates took part in the discussion session, voicing opinions on a range of issues affecting bank officers and the functioning of the union. The conference adopted six resolutions and unanimously approved a 15-point charter of demands, which will serve as a guiding framework for future negotiations and programmes.

The event also recognised achievements within the organisation. New members and recently promoted officers were felicitated, while four officials—Shubhankar Chowdhury, Subal Rudra Pal, Dipak Debnath and Soumajit Bhattacharya—were honoured for earning specialised banking certifications.

In a welfare initiative, financial assistance of ₹1 lakh was extended to daily-rated worker Dilip Deb of the Fatikroy branch, facilitated through the Tripura Gramin Bank Retired Staff Association.

A new 35-member committee was constituted, with Sanjay Das elected president, Odissi Chakraborty as general secretary, and Surajit Debbarma as treasurer. Executive president Sukanta Biswas thanked participants and formally concluded the conference.
