Agartala:

After an intensive three-day search operation, the body of Rakesh Shil was recovered from a river near Ishan Chandranagar School on Sunday morning at around 11 a.m., bringing a tragic end to a desperate rescue effort that had gripped the local community.

The recovery operation was carried out jointly by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the second battalion of Gokulnagar CTI, and the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) Underwater Deep Diving Unit. Despite challenging conditions, the teams continued their search tirelessly since Friday, when Shil reportedly drowned in the river.

Soon after the body was located, personnel from Amtali Police Station and the Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot to secure the area and assist with the recovery process. The scene turned emotional as family members identified the body, breaking down in grief. The tragic incident cast a shadow of sorrow across the locality, with residents gathering near the site to express their condolences.

According to preliminary police reports, Rakesh Shil had accidentally drowned near the riverbank close to Ishan Chandranagar School. Since the incident, rescue teams had been engaged in round-the-clock operations, scanning the water and surrounding areas in hopes of locating him.

Authorities have stated that all legal procedures, including inquest formalities, will be completed before the body is sent for post-mortem examination to Hapania Medical College Hospital. The post-mortem is expected to provide further clarity on the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, Amtali Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the incident. Officials said they are examining all aspects, including eyewitness accounts and environmental conditions, to determine whether it was a case of accidental drowning or if other factors were involved.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with water bodies during this season, even as the bereaved family awaits closure after days of uncertainty and anguish.
