Agartala, May 13:
A delegation from neighbouring Assam visited the Tulashikhar R.D. Block area in Tripura’s Khowai district on Tuesday to review various sanitation and waste management initiatives being implemented under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) [SBM(G)].

The visiting team was warmly received by the local Block Administration and taken on a detailed tour of several project sites showcasing innovative and community-driven sanitation practices adopted in the district.

One of the major attractions of the visit was the inspection of the Plastic Waste Management Unit (PWMU), where the delegation observed methods adopted for scientific handling and recycling of plastic waste. Officials said the initiative has been playing an important role in promoting sustainable waste management practices in rural areas.

The delegation also visited Immanuel SB School, where they inspected unique sanitation facilities, including toilets constructed entirely from recycled plastic materials. The innovative model drew appreciation from the visiting members, who termed it an effective example of combining sanitation infrastructure with environmental sustainability.

As part of the field visit, the Assam team toured the Paschim Champacherra Anganwadi Centre (AWC) to understand the grassroots-level implementation of SBM(G) programmes. They interacted with local officials and staff members to gain insights into awareness campaigns, community participation, and maintenance of sanitation facilities at the village level.

According to officials, the visit provided an important platform for the exchange of ideas, experiences, and best practices between the two neighbouring states. The interaction is expected to strengthen inter-state cooperation in achieving the objectives of cleaner and healthier rural communities through sustainable development initiatives.

Earlier in the day, the SBM(G) Assam delegation visited the Office of the District Magistrate and Collector in Khowai and held discussions with District Magistrate Rajat Pant on various sanitation and waste management initiatives being undertaken in the district.

During the interaction, members of the delegation shared their experiences and appreciated the innovative measures adopted in Khowai under SBM(G). As a gesture of goodwill, the District Magistrate and Collector presented the team with “NIRMAL MOTI,” the official mascot of SBM(G) Khowai.
