Police officials said the District Control Room in Khowai received an alert from the South Tripura District Control Room early Sunday morning regarding the theft of a white-coloured Bolero vehicle bearing registration number TR08-0921. The vehicle belongs to KVK South Tripura and had reportedly gone missing from the Manpathar area.
Following the alert, Khowai district police immediately intensified surveillance and directed all naka points and police check posts in the district to carry out strict vehicle checking operations. After a prolonged chase spanning multiple areas, the vehicle was finally intercepted at around 11 am at Mendi area under Salema police station with the assistance of the Officer-in-Charge of Salema police station and other police personnel.
Police detained both the vehicle and its driver for further questioning.
Initial verification confirmed that the detained Bolero was the same vehicle reported stolen from South Tripura. Police officials said further investigation is currently underway to ascertain how the vehicle was stolen and whether more persons were involved in the incident.
Officials described the operation as a successful example of prompt coordination between different district police units that helped in recovering the stolen government vehicle within a few hours.
