Agartala, May 27: In a significant organizational reshuffle ahead of crucial elections in the state, BJP MLA Abhishek Debroy has been appointed as the new president of the Tripura Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Debroy, who represents the Matabari Assembly constituency, was officially chosen following a high-level meeting held in New Delhi on Thursday.
The decision was finalized by the party’s central leadership, and BJP National President Nitin Nabin formally approved Debroy’s appointment as the chief of the party’s Tripura unit. He succeeds Rajib Bhattacharjee, who had been serving as the state BJP president since 2022.
Known as a young and energetic leader, Debroy has built a strong image within the party for maintaining close contact with grassroots workers and organizational cadres across the state. His elevation is being viewed as a strategic move by the BJP leadership to further strengthen the party machinery ahead of the 2028 Tripura Assembly elections.
Soon after the announcement, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, senior party leaders, and BJP workers from different parts of the state congratulated Debroy on his new responsibility. In a message shared on social media, the Chief Minister expressed confidence in Debroy’s leadership abilities and organizational skills.
“Heartiest congratulations to Shri Abhishek Debroy Ji on being appointed as the President of BJP Tripura Pradesh. Confident that under his dynamic leadership and organizational vision, the party will grow stronger and continue working dedicatedly for the welfare of Tripura’s people. Wishing him a successful tenure ahead,” Dr. Saha wrote.
Political observers believe the appointment reflects the BJP’s intention to energize its cadre base and reinforce its grassroots presence in the state. The party is expected to focus extensively on upcoming Village Committee elections and local body polls, which are considered important ahead of the next Assembly election cycle.
Debroy’s appointment has generated enthusiasm among party workers, with many hoping that his leadership will help the BJP consolidate its position further in Tripura’s political landscape.
