Agartala, July 3: The newly constructed 50-bed Agartala Civil Hospital is fully prepared for inauguration and will soon be opened to the public, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte announced on Friday after inspecting the facility.

The Health Secretary, accompanied by Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, National Health Mission (NHM) Tripura Mission Director Saju Vaheed A, and other senior officials, reviewed the hospital’s infrastructure and readiness ahead of its formal launch.

Speaking to reporters, Gitte said the establishment of the hospital was a key initiative of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who laid the foundation stone in April last year. The project has been completed with financial support from the National Health Mission (NHM), and all essential arrangements have been made to ensure smooth functioning from the very first day.

“We have already posted seven doctors along with the required paramedical staff for the hospital. Initially, the hospital will function under the supervision of the Medical Superintendent of IGM Hospital,” Gitte said.

He added that the new hospital is expected to strengthen the city’s primary healthcare system by reducing the burden on the state’s major referral hospitals. Residents requiring primary medical care will be encouraged to visit the Agartala Civil Hospital or nearby Urban Primary Health Centres, while patients requiring specialised treatment will continue to be referred to Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital and Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital.

The Health Secretary also highlighted that the hospital has been equipped with modern healthcare infrastructure, including an oxygen generation plant, an emergency unit, adequate parking facilities, and other essential services to provide quality patient care.

The date for the inauguration will be finalised after receiving the Chief Minister’s approval, Gitte said.

Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder said the hospital has been developed under the Agartala Municipal Corporation with the objective of improving healthcare accessibility for city residents and easing patient congestion at GBP and IGM Hospitals.

“The hospital will play a vital role in delivering affordable and accessible healthcare services to the people of Agartala. We expect the inauguration to take place later this month,” the Mayor said.

The new facility is expected to significantly enhance healthcare delivery in the state capital by expanding access to quality medical services closer to people’s homes.
