Agartala, July 4: Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a 1.5-km road development project connecting the CRPF Camp at Chakmaghat to the residence of Birendra Das in Teliamura, marking a significant step towards improving rural connectivity in the area.

The foundation-laying ceremony was attended by local public representatives, government officials and a large number of residents, who welcomed the long-awaited project after years of persistent demands.

The road has remained in a poor condition for several years, causing considerable hardship to commuters, particularly during the monsoon when it became muddy and unsafe for vehicular movement. Students, patients, farmers, daily wage earners and local residents had been facing difficulties due to inadequate road connectivity, while repeated appeals for its reconstruction remained unaddressed.

With construction now set to begin, residents expressed hope that the upgraded road would substantially improve transportation and ease daily commuting. They said the project would facilitate the movement of agricultural produce to markets, improve access to schools and healthcare facilities, and strengthen connectivity with the National Highway, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Debbarma said the state government remains committed to improving infrastructure in rural and tribal areas through sustained development initiatives.

“The welfare of the people remains at the centre of the government’s development agenda. We are implementing projects to resolve long-pending infrastructure issues in remote areas. Completion of this road will provide much-needed relief to local residents and improve their quality of life,” he said.

The minister added that the government is giving priority to strengthening road connectivity across the state, particularly in underserved areas, to ensure balanced and inclusive development.

Residents thanked the government for initiating the project, expressing confidence that the improved road would enhance mobility, support economic activities and provide better access to essential public services. The project is expected to benefit thousands of people living in and around Teliamura by providing a safer, more reliable and all-weather road link.
