Agartala, July 22: Student protests entered their third consecutive day in Agartala on Wednesday, with demonstrators staging a sit-in outside the Circuit House and demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over issues related to the education system.

Carrying placards and raising slogans, the protesters said their movement was aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability and fairness in education. They alleged that corruption and irregularities in examinations were undermining opportunities for deserving students.

Speaking at the protest, several students said the agitation was not limited to seeking the resignation of the Union Minister but reflected broader concerns about governance in the education sector. They claimed that repeated controversies surrounding examinations had eroded public confidence in the system.

The protesters also expressed solidarity with student movements in Delhi and other parts of the country. Some participants criticised the reported removal of activist Sonam Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar and alleged police action against students in the national capital, claiming such incidents reflected attempts to suppress peaceful dissent.

According to the demonstrators, their campaign is centred on four key demands: the resignation of the Union Education Minister, greater transparency in the education system, administrative accountability and an end to corruption in examinations.

Student leaders asserted that the protest was non-political and intended to safeguard the interests of students. They said the movement would continue until concrete steps were taken to address their concerns.

The continuing demonstration has drawn attention across Tripura, with students vowing to intensify their campaign if their demands remain unaddressed. Protesters maintained that the issue concerns the future of education and equal opportunities for students rather than partisan politics.

No untoward incident was reported during Wednesday’s protest, while the administration continued to monitor the situation. The agitation is part of a wider wave of student protests being held in different parts of the country over issues relating to examination transparency and educational reforms.
