Agartala, August 18: The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has initiated disciplinary action against its personnel, suspending two engineers over allegations of negligence in handling electricity bills and other service-related responsibilities, according to official sources.
The action was taken following complaints regarding alleged lapses in duty and lack of accountability in consumer-related services. The two engineers have been temporarily removed from their responsibilities pending further inquiry into the allegations.
Apart from the suspensions, several other engineers have reportedly come under scrutiny as TSECL examines possible irregularities in electricity billing and delays in providing services to consumers.
Officials said the ongoing investigation would look into the roles and responsibilities of the personnel concerned and determine whether further disciplinary action is required. The corporation is also expected to examine whether existing monitoring and accountability mechanisms need to be strengthened to prevent similar complaints.
The development comes amid concerns raised by consumers over alleged discrepancies in electricity bills and delays in restoration of power and other services. Consumers in different areas have complained about difficulties in getting billing-related grievances resolved and have sought greater accountability and responsiveness from the power utility.
According to officials, the disciplinary action is aimed at sending a strong message that negligence and dereliction of duty in providing essential public services will not be tolerated.
TSECL is also expected to review its internal monitoring system with a focus on improving transparency, efficiency and accountability in electricity billing and consumer services.
The action has drawn attention as electricity billing and uninterrupted service remain key concerns for consumers across Tripura. The outcome of the investigation is expected to determine whether the alleged lapses were limited to individual officials or whether broader corrective measures are required within the corporation.
Consumers, meanwhile, will be looking for improvements in grievance redressal, accuracy of electricity bills and quicker response to service-related complaints.
Further action against officials could follow depending on the findings of the inquiry. TSECL authorities are expected to take appropriate measures based on the investigation while strengthening oversight to ensure better delivery of electricity services to consumers across the state.
