Agartala: Dec 26: Former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the age of 92. Dr. Singh, who served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, was one of India’s most respected leaders and a key figure in shaping the country’s economic policies over the past few decades. He had been battling age-related health issues and was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi after a sudden loss of consciousness at home.

The veteran Congress leader’s health deteriorated on the evening of December 26, leading to an immediate medical response at his residence. He was rushed to the emergency ward at AIIMS at 8:06 PM, but despite efforts to revive him, he was declared dead at 9:51 PM. The hospital’s statement confirmed that all possible resuscitative measures had been attempted, but he could not be revived.

Dr. Singh’s political career spanned decades, and he was known for his quiet but firm leadership, marked by the economic liberalization of India in the early 1990s. Prior to serving as Prime Minister, he was the Finance Minister and played a pivotal role in transforming India into a global economic power. In April 2024, Dr. Singh retired from the Rajya Sabha after a distinguished 33-year tenure as a member of the Upper House.

He is survived by his wife, Gurcharan Kaur, and three daughters. His death marks the end of an era in Indian politics, as he leaves behind a legacy of economic reform and service to the nation. Tributes have poured in from across the political spectrum, with leaders remembering his wisdom, integrity, and dedication to the country.
