Agartala: Feb 13: Raju Das has been sentenced to 20 years by the Belonia District and Sessions Court for the crime of kidnapping and raping a minor. The incident took place on February 28, 2021, in the Chottakhola area under P.R. Bari police station. On that day, the minor girl went to a festival at Chottakhola market, where Raju Das kidnapped her, avoiding everyone’s notice.
The minor girl’s family could not find her and filed a complaint at the PR Bari police station. The case was then transferred to Belonia Women’s Police Station, which investigated the incident and rescued the minor girl. Raju Das was subsequently arrested. The investigating officer submitted the charge sheet to the court, and the trial process began.
During the trial, testimony was taken from a total of 18 witnesses. On Thursday, the court found Raju Das guilty and sentenced him to 20 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, with an additional two months imprisonment for non-payment of the fine. Special PP Prabhat Chandra Dutta informed about the court’s verdict.
