Agartala: Feb 13: On Thursday, students from Chandpur Secondary School blocked the national highway in protest after an incident involving the acting headmaster of the school being allegedly assaulted. The incident took place on February 10 at the school, located in the Bagbasa assembly constituency in the Dharmanagar subdivision. According to reports, four students arrived late to the school after the national anthem had been sung. The acting headmaster, Bikash Das, reportedly stopped them from entering the school, stating that they could not be allowed in because they had arrived after the scheduled time.

The situation escalated when one of the students, Puja Nath, had her mother, Sumati Bardhan, come to the school. Bardhan allegedly confronted the acting headmaster and began beating him with shoes in front of the school staff. The Churabari police were notified, and the accused woman was taken to the police station, which helped calm the situation temporarily. The school management committee later intervened to resolve the matter, and Bardhan was released in the afternoon.

However, the situation took another turn when Sumati Bardhan filed a counter-complaint against the acting headmaster at the Dharmanagar IS officer’s office on Tuesday, seeking justice. This prompted the students to protest, and on Thursday morning, they blocked the Chandpur area of the No. 8 Assam Agartala National Road, demanding justice for the assault on their headmaster.

The police arrived at the scene and assured the students that legal action would be taken once a formal complaint was filed by the assaulted headmaster. After receiving this assurance, the students lifted the blockade around 5:10 AM, and traffic resumed. The next step is now uncertain, as it remains to be seen whether the acting headmaster will file a written complaint with the police station.
