Agartala: Mar 21: On the first day of the 2025-26 Tripura Budget Session, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha assured that the government would not compromise on the future of students and would resolve the ongoing issue regarding the Kokborok script soon. Dr. Saha addressed the matter during his speech, stating that discussions on adopting the Roman script for Kokborok language had taken place in the last Assembly session, but no definitive decision had been made.

He elaborated that several rounds of discussions were held, questioning whether Roman or Devanagari script would be more suitable for Kokborok. Despite extensive deliberations, a concrete resolution had not yet been reached. Dr. Saha also acknowledged that protests had been organized and that he had engaged with leadership on the matter. He reminded the Assembly that the tripartite agreement included the issue of Kokborok script, and talks were ongoing to find a fair and practical solution. He emphasized that the government was carefully considering the pros and cons before making a final decision.

“We respect all communities, traditions, and languages. We aim for a final solution, and we are committed to resolving this issue,” Dr. Saha said. He further highlighted the importance of education, noting that 1,412 students had enrolled in the CBSE exams, with 1,339 attending. He reassured that as long as invigilators understood the scripts used by students, there should be no issue, stressing that the government would ensure students’ education was not disrupted.

Dr. Saha concluded by reiterating that the current government is a “government of solutions,” one that prioritizes the welfare and future of students above all else.
