Agartala: Mar 29: BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra has announced a series of protests starting with an overnight sit-in at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on April 2 at 11 AM. This protest is in response to the Congress government’s recent price hikes. The event will see participation from BJP MLAs, MLCs, former MLAs, election candidates, district presidents, and state office bearers. The protest aims to condemn price hikes, particularly in water tariffs, petrol, and milk, which Vijayendra criticized as burdensome to the people of Karnataka. He mocked the milk price hike as the Congress government’s “Ugadi gift” to the public.
In addition to the sit-in, BJP MLAs and MLCs will protest in front of the Kengal statue near Vidhana Soudha on April 2, calling for the reversal of the suspension of 18 BJP MLAs by the Assembly Speaker. Vijayendra labeled the Speaker’s decision as authoritarian and a direct insult to voters, with BJP leaders vowing to boycott committee meetings until the suspension is revoked.
Further protests will be held on April 4 at district centers and on April 5 at mandals to continue the fight against the Congress government’s price hike policies. Vijayendra also expressed opposition to the Congress government’s decision to reserve 4% of government contracts for Muslims, calling it discriminatory and unjust.
On the internal matters within the BJP, Vijayendra clarified that he had attempted to address any differences within the party, specifically regarding Basangouda Patil Yatnal, and emphasized that his goal was to bring BJP to power in Karnataka. He dismissed speculation about his aspirations for the Chief Minister’s post, focusing instead on party unity and strengthening its position.
