Agartala: April 05: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today expressed the government’s commitment to honoring and preserving the legacy of personalities who have elevated the state’s name through their remarkable contributions to art and culture. He made these remarks while inaugurating the 3-day-long Bipul Kanti Saha State Art & Craft Festival at the Government Art and Craft College, Lichubagan. The festival, organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, features a range of activities, including drawing competitions, cultural programs, and discussions with eminent personalities from the state’s art world. Exhibition stalls have been set up by 10 different organizations, including the Lalit Kala Academy, Government College of Fine Arts, and Karu Kala Utsav.

In his address, Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of acknowledging the contributions of individuals like Bipul Kanti Saha, a pioneer of modern sculpture in the state. He noted that Saha’s tireless dedication has earned him international recognition, and his work has significantly shaped the art scene in Tripura. “Such personalities can never be forgotten,” said Dr. Saha, stressing that their efforts would continue to inspire future generations to push the boundaries of art and culture.

Dr. Saha further stated that while art was historically practiced within the royal family of Tripura, it was often beyond the reach of the general public. Bipul Kanti Saha, he said, played a crucial role in making these artistic traditions accessible to the masses. He also highlighted the importance of honoring such individuals for their contributions to culture and ensuring that their work remains a source of inspiration.

The Chief Minister added that culture and tradition hold the key to a nation’s survival, with creative expression offering youth an alternative to addiction. He also announced that the state’s fiscal budget for 2025–26 includes an allocation of Rs. 3 crore for musical instrument workshops for tribal communities across Tripura, further emphasizing the government’s focus on nurturing cultural heritage.

The event was attended by notable figures such as Special Secretary Debapriya Bardhan, Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, and Dipika Saha, the wife of the renowned sculptor.
