Agartala, April 25: Tipra Motha chief and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has strongly endorsed the Indian government’s decisive response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, while simultaneously calling for a similar approach toward Bangladesh. Speaking on Friday, Debbarma raised concerns over growing religious fundamentalism in the region and warned of a strategic pincer movement by India’s western and eastern neighbors.

“Bangladesh and Pakistan will try to surround India — one from the west and one from the east,” Debbarma asserted. While commending the government’s stern action against Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives, he emphasized the need for similar vigilance against Bangladesh, which he accused of promoting fundamentalist ideologies targeting Hindu minorities.

Citing controversial remarks made by Bangladeshi public figures such as Mohammad Yunus and reports of Pakistani ISI generals recently visiting Bangladesh, Debbarma highlighted the shifting geopolitical dynamics in the region. “Delhi is close to Pakistan but that doesn’t make us less Indian. We love our country and we want the government to be equally strong with Bangladesh,” he said, warning that eastern India, especially Tripura, faces increasing threats.

He claimed that the Chinese military is constructing an airbase near North Bengal, adding to the region’s vulnerability. Further, he alleged that Tripura has been deeply impacted by religious extremism emanating from Bangladesh, which has long affected the demographic and social fabric of the state.

Pradyot referenced historical instances of communal violence in areas like Noakhali, Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar, and Brahmanbaria—regions that were once part of undivided Tripura—to underline his point. “Today, the land disputes between tribal and non-tribal communities in Tripura stem from the migration of Hindus who were forced to flee East Pakistan due to fundamentalist violence,” he said.

His remarks come amid heightened security concerns in the region following the recent attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
