Belonia, April 25:
Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ashish Kumar Saha on Friday voiced strong criticism against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not chairing an all-party meeting in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack, which claimed 26 lives, has triggered nationwide grief and demands for stronger national security measures.

Speaking at a press conference at the Congress Bhavan in Belonia, South Tripura district, Saha expressed his disappointment over what he described as the Prime Minister’s lack of seriousness in handling the crisis. “The Prime Minister returned to India after cutting short his visit to Arabia on the day of the incident, yet instead of addressing national concerns, he resumed political campaigning in Bihar,” Saha remarked.

He accused the Modi-led government of failing to ensure security in sensitive tourist regions like Pahalgam, which are frequently under threat from militant activities. “Such negligence raises serious questions about the government’s priorities when it comes to national security,” he added.

The PCC chief also alleged that the BJP’s IT cell is actively working to exploit the situation for political gain by deepening religious divides. “Instead of uniting the country in a time of tragedy, divisive narratives are being amplified,” Saha said.

Referring to Modi’s past promises of eliminating terrorism from Kashmir, Saha stated, “The Prime Minister once declared he would reduce terrorism to zero, but the opposite is unfolding. The Congress believes that the Centre must act swiftly and decisively to eliminate the presence of Pakistani terrorists.”

Saha’s remarks reflect growing frustration within opposition ranks over what they see as the central government’s failure to adequately respond to escalating terror threats, especially in regions critical to national unity and tourism.
