Agartala, April 25: Member of Parliament and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Friday reflected on the remarkable transformation in rural road infrastructure, contrasting the Communist era with the BJP-led government’s development-driven governance. Sharing his thoughts on social media, Deb highlighted a major milestone in the Tilthai region of North Tripura, once a neglected tribal-dominated area.

Deb recalled how, for decades, residents of Tilthai under the Jubarajnagar RD Block had to brave hazardous and poorly maintained roads. “People risked their lives daily just to access basic services,” he wrote. However, this scenario changed significantly with the inauguration of 101 paved block roads covering 55.62 kilometers on February 11, 2022. These all-weather roads have since transformed the lives of people across 107 Gram Panchayats and ADC village committees.

He emphasized that prior to 2018, such remote tribal areas were systematically ignored due to what he described as the “narrow political interests” of the previous Communist regime. “Tribal communities were reduced to vote banks, with no serious efforts made to improve their living conditions,” Deb alleged.

Deb criticized the Left Front government for denying basic rights and infrastructure to rural and tribal populations for years. He pointed out that in many villages, people were forced to rely on mud paths or makeshift bamboo bridges, even for essential travel.

Since the formation of the BJP government in 2018 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Deb stated that rural infrastructure—especially roads—has become a key priority. “Special focus is now being given to rural development as part of a holistic vision,” he said.

He concluded by noting the positive impact of these developments, which have enhanced connectivity and boosted socio-economic conditions in previously neglected ADC regions.
