Agartala, May 3: In a significant move to encourage timely assistance to road accident victims, the Tripura government has announced an increase in the cash reward under the ‘Rah-Veer’ scheme from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 25,000. Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury made the announcement during a review meeting held at the State Guest House on Saturday.

Chowdhury stated that the ‘Rah-Veer’ scheme, introduced by the central government, aims to motivate the public to assist road accident victims during the critical “Golden Hour” by transporting them to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The new initiative replaces the earlier ‘Good Samaritan’ scheme, with a fivefold increase in the award amount to encourage broader participation.

“To avail of the award, individuals must meet specific eligibility criteria,” the minister clarified, while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the review meeting. He emphasized that the scheme is intended to save innocent lives and foster a sense of responsibility among citizens in emergency situations.

The review meeting, chaired by the minister, was attended by the Secretary of Transport and other senior officials. Discussions focused on the progress of ongoing development projects, implementation of technology in transport services, and departmental performance.

Highlighting development initiatives, Chowdhury revealed that various transport-related projects worth approximately Rs. 150 crore are currently underway across Tripura. He instructed officials to ensure timely completion and maintain quality standards.

The minister also highlighted the department’s highest-ever revenue collection of Rs. 155 crore following the adoption of a cashless system. He credited the digital transformation for enhancing transparency, accountability, and faster service delivery.

In addition, the review meeting emphasized strengthening the eChallan system to ensure stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and reduce violations.

Chowdhury reiterated the government’s commitment to improving road safety, enhancing transport infrastructure, and delivering efficient services to the public.
