The incident took place around 2:30 PM on Friday when a routine vehicle check was being carried out near the naka point in front of Rajnagar PR Bari outpost. Upon inspection, the team discovered 192 bottles of illicit foreign liquor hidden inside the vehicle.
The vehicle was immediately seized, and the driver, Uttam Nama, along with the co-driver, Manik Debnath—both residents of Chottakhola area—were taken into custody. The accused were arrested under Section 69 of the Tripura Excise Act, which pertains to the illegal possession and transportation of liquor.
Following their arrest, both individuals were produced before the Bilonia Sub-Divisional Court, where legal proceedings were initiated against them.
Police sources confirmed that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal trade and smuggling of liquor across the state, particularly in border areas. The seizure has once again highlighted the use of rural routes by smugglers to bypass enforcement checks.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to intensifying patrols and naka checking to deter such illegal activities. The arrested individuals are being interrogated to uncover the supply chain and possible links to a broader smuggling network.
This successful interception not only led to the seizure of illicit liquor but also sent a strong message to those involved in the illegal liquor trade that enforcement agencies remain vigilant.
