Agartala, June 23: Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Sunday issued a strong appeal to all political parties in Tripura to refrain from treating illegal Bangladeshi immigrants as “vote banks,” warning that such actions could have serious consequences for the state’s demographic and political stability.

Addressing his supporters through a live stream on social media, Debbarman alleged that groups of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants—numbering between 16 to 20—were found staying in the Chakmaghat area, under the jurisdiction of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). He added that suspicious movements of other groups were also observed in the Killa-Bagma area, where they hide during the day and emerge only at night.

“Our party activists have kept a close watch and alerted the concerned departments, but state machinery alone is not sufficient. I urge the government to assign paramilitary forces to identify and deport these illegal immigrants,” Debbarman stated.

He further warned political parties against exploiting cultural and linguistic ties for political gain. “They may speak the same language or share some cultural similarities, but they are not us. Stop protecting them for electoral benefits,” he said.

Debbarman also raised concerns over the growing ease with which illegal immigrants access official documents in Tripura, urging all communities to rise above political divisions and unite against this issue.

On the Tiprasa Accord, he informed that he had written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting faster implementation. “The delay is sending a negative signal across the Northeast,” he said, adding that Shah assured some movement within three weeks.

He also expressed apprehension about Bangladesh’s current political climate, warning that any anti-India regime could impact border states like Tripura, Meghalaya, and Assam.
