A serious case of alleged ragging has emerged from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Ramchandraghat, Khowai District, raising alarm among parents and education authorities alike.

The incident came to light after Ayush Dutta, a Class IX student, fled the school hostel on Saturday, reportedly unable to bear continuous mental and physical harassment from senior students. He made his way back home to the Sepahihowar area in Khowai, prompting concern from both his family and the school.

On Monday, Ayush and his parents filed a formal complaint at the Khowai police station, alleging that he was routinely forced to follow unreasonable commands by senior students and was physically punished if he refused. Unable to endure the repeated abuse, he decided to leave the residential campus without informing school authorities.

In response to Ayush’s sudden disappearance, the school filed a missing diary with local police. However, by the time the report was registered, the student had already reached home safely and informed his family of the alleged ragging.

So far, the school authorities have not issued an official statement or confirmed any disciplinary measures against those allegedly involved. However, this incident has reignited concerns among parents, as there have been previous reports of student altercations and similar complaints at the same institution.

Despite the presence of strict anti-ragging laws and guidelines across India, such troubling incidents continue to surface, even in central government-run residential schools like the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.

The latest case underscores the urgent need for better monitoring and preventive measures in hostels to ensure the safety and mental well-being of students, especially those living away from home. Authorities are expected to take swift action to investigate and prevent recurrence.
