Guwahati, July 4: Train services connecting South Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, and the rest of India via Guwahati resumed on Friday after a day’s disruption caused by landslides in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, officials confirmed.

The landslides, triggered by heavy rains, affected the crucial Lumding–Badarpur Hill Section of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), halting train operations on Thursday. Large boulders and debris had blocked the tracks between Dihakho and Mupa stations.

According to NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, swift restoration efforts led to the successful clearance and repair of the affected section. “Train operations through the Dihakho-Mupa section resumed on Friday morning. The first train to pass through the restored stretch was the Agartala–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express,” he said.

Senior railway officials had reached the site soon after the incident and supervised restoration work carried out through the night. Debris was cleared on a war footing to ensure passenger safety and timely resumption of services.

To support affected travelers, help desks were set up at Guwahati, Lumding, Silchar, Badarpur, and Agartala stations, providing real-time updates and assistance. Food and water were also arranged for stranded passengers.

Train services along the Lumding–Badarpur Hill Section had also faced a week-long disruption from June 23 to June 30 due to earlier landslides. Monsoon-triggered disruptions are a recurring issue in the region, with states like Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and southern Assam frequently cut off due to landslides and waterlogging during June–September.

Passengers are advised to check official railway enquiry platforms for live train updates and schedules as services normalize across the affected routes.
