Krishnapur, July 9: Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma chaired a crucial meeting at the BJP’s Krishnapur Mandal Office on Tuesday to build public awareness and mobilize support against the nationwide strike called by ten central trade unions. The gathering aimed to highlight the disruptive impact of the bandh and urge citizens to ensure normal civic life continues without interruption.

Addressing party workers and local leaders, Minister Debbarma strongly criticized the CPI(M)-backed strike, calling it politically motivated and detrimental to the economy and daily life. He argued that such actions do not serve the public interest and only hinder the state’s development momentum.

“The strike is a regressive step that creates unnecessary disruption. People want progress, not politics of inconvenience,” Debbarma said.

He emphasized that the BJP-led government has introduced key reforms to modernize governance and promote growth. The new labor codes, he noted, are designed to streamline outdated laws, promote ease of doing business, and generate employment. On the contentious New Pension Scheme (NPS), the minister stated it is more sustainable and forward-looking compared to the old pension system. He also defended the Electricity Amendment Bill, saying it will attract private investment and enhance service delivery in the power sector.

Also present at the meeting were Mandal president Dhananjoy Das, vice president Gopal Das, former Khowai Yuva Morcha president Indrajit Saha, and several BJP workers and booth-level functionaries. The attendees unanimously resolved to oppose the strike and continue delivering public services without disruption.

They pledged active engagement with the public to raise awareness about the government’s reforms and to counter the negative effects of the bandh. The party appealed to all citizens to reject the strike and support uninterrupted normalcy across Tripura.
